 Through the Garage Door

If you’re like me, you stopped using the front door to enter and exit your home long ago. In fact, many homeowners rely on their garage doors as the primary way to enter and exit their homes. It’s just easier – you’re usually going to or from your car anyway. But what you may not know is that the garage door is often the route that burglars take to get into your home as well. Luckily, you can make your garage door more secure. I started this blog to share my tips for garage door security and maintenance, as well as the things that you need to know when choosing a new garage door. Don’t forget to check out all the ways you can customize your garage door opener to make it more secure and more suited for your lifestyle.

Think About Using Reclaimed Barn Wood In Your House

If you want to have a rustic look for your house, there are a lot of ways that you can do it. One is that you can use reclaimed wood from barns.

Reclaimed Wood

Reclaimed wood is wood that has been used in barns or other buildings. Instead of just tearing down the barn and tossing out all the debris, the people who are taking it down very carefully disassemble the building. That way they can save as much of the wood as is possible. Then they can sell that wood to people who are wanting to use it in their buildings. There are a lot of reasons why people want to use reclaimed wood. One is that it is more individual than would that you can get now. Many barns were made when planks were more handled by hand, so you can see things like tool marks. You also get things like knots and worm holes which gives the wood character. There are also several ways that you can use reclaimed wood in your home.

Barn Doors

One thing that you can do is adapt the barn doors to work in your house. For example, you could get one of the doors and have it hung so that it slides open on a rail over the doorway. That way you still get the rustic-ness of the door along with a way to make sure that you can close out a room. An added benefit of this is that a door like this is a good way to make use of limited space. Since the door just slides along the wall when it's opened, you don't have to make sure that you have the floor space for it to swing open.

Kitchen/Dining Room Table

Another way that you can use reclaimed barn wood in your house is to have it turned into furniture. You could have a  barn wood table in your farmhouse style kitchen. Having furniture made out of the reclaimed barn wood would be a good way to pull the wood into your house if you can't afford to use a lot of it but you still want to have the look of it.

If you are designing a house that is rustic or farmhouse style, you may want to consider using reclaimed barn wood. You are going to get some wood with character that will enhance the look of your house. For more information, contact a company like Old Barn Wood Company LLC.
